LaCie Enhances Portable DVD±RW Drive with New Features and a New Look


Today LaCie announced the latest versions of its Portable DVD±RW Drive, design by Sam Hecht.

Now with a sleek black finish, the award-winning LaCie Portable DVD±RW includes new multimedia burning solutions, allowing users to piece together sophisticated movie, music, and photo projects in a matter of minutes - creating customized CDs or DVDs wherever they go.

Digital Rebellion Releases FCS Maintenance Pack

  • Digital Rebellion LLC today announced the availability of FCS Maintenance Pack, a suite of software tools to maintain and optimize Final Cut Studio systems.

Major problems always seem to occur right on a deadline - FCS Maintenance Pack is designed to rapidly diagnose and fix common issues, ensuring users get back on track as quickly as possible. With the Task Scheduler utility, maintenance tasks can even be scheduled in the background so users never have to worry about them.

Inlet's Spinnaker the de facto Standard for Preparing Digital Media Content for Apple iPhone

Inlet Technologies, the leader in live streaming and video-on-demand solutions for digital media, announced today it is helping to enable HTTP adaptive streaming of content to the Apple® iPhoneTM and iPod® Touch® for some of the most innovative broadcasters, entertainment and retail enterprises, and sports organizations around the globe.

Starting today, iStockphoto becomes the first micropayment royalty-free image, video and audio provider to legally guarantee all files in its collection – at no cost to the customer. iStock promises that files purchased and used in accordance with the iStock license, will not breach any trademark, copyright or other intellectual property rights or rights of privacy.

The iStock Legal Guarantee provides that, if a customer receives a claim, iStock will cover the customer’s legal costs and direct damages to a combined total of $10,000. iStock customers looking for additional peace of mind can also purchase an extension of the Legal Guarantee for 100 iStock credits, increasing iStock’s coverage for legal fees and direct damages up to a combined total of $250,000.

Blackmagic Design Announces the Purchase of all Assets of DaVinci Systems LLC

Blackmagic Design today announced the purchase of all assets of DaVinci Systems LLC. This purchase means Blackmagic Design will now offer DaVinci Resolve DI color correction systems and DaVinci Revival film restoration products for sale worldwide.

DaVinci Resolve working with stereoscopic 3D and 4K, and DaVinci Revival film restoration will be demonstrated at IBC 2009 at the DaVinci booth 7.D08.

Since 1984 DaVinci have been, and continue to be, the standard in post production. There are thousands of colorists worldwide who understand the performance, quality and workflow of DaVinci color correction systems. DaVinci is the name behind more feature films, television commercials, documentaries, episodic television production and music videos than any other grading system.

DaVinci Resolve is unique in supporting more real time color correction than any other system. This advantage is because DaVinci Resolve is not limited by the computer it's running on. DaVinci Resolve is based on a cluster of computers with high performance GPU cards, so all processing is always real time.

This means DaVinci Resolve has the power of a super computer for the real time performance of all color grades even when using dozens of primaries, secondaries, power windowsTM, multi point tracking, blurs, and more. With DaVinci Resolve, this is all real time, and if customers need more power for higher resolutions or more "nodes" of color correction, they can add more computers or GPU cards for the additional power.

Blackmagic Design has also initiated a wide ranging restructure of the DaVinci business. The new focus will now be on the DaVinci Resolve color correction and DaVinci Revival film restoration products. The company believes these products represent the future of color correction and film restoration and the company has many exciting ideas for future developments.

DaVinci Resolve already has the power to handle complex color grades in real time even at native 4K resolutions and in stereoscopic 3D. These are the features that are vital on modern post production workflows. To accelerate development, DaVinci Resolve and DaVinci Revival engineering teams have already been expanded and further expansion is currently underway.

Due to the age of the DaVinci 2K systems which were originally launched in 1999, Blackmagic Design will cease marketing 2K systems immediately. Support for 2K systems will continue and plenty of spare parts are available for customer repairs. Engineering will be dedicated to bug fix updates and small feature releases.

Annual support contracts will also immediately cease, and a new "pay as you go" system will be initiated so customers only need to pay if a fault occurs. Blackmagic Design believes this will save customers thousands of dollars of unused support payments. Customers can pay for any repairs required, and purchase and repair of second hand DaVinci products will be supported when possible. This will greatly improve the resale value of second hand DaVinci products.

"I remember back in 1988 to the first day I started in post production and was shown the telecine suite with DaVinci. I could not believe the quality of the images on the monitor, and that was the moment I fell in love with high quality imaging and color correction," said Grant Petty, CEO, Blackmagic Design. "I worked hard to become a telecine engineer, and for me it was the most exciting job in post production. It's been a while since I was a telecine engineer, however it's incredibly exciting to be back involved with DaVinci again! We have a lot to live up to and many fantastic ideas, so it's a very exciting time!"

Sound Devices Introduces 552 Production Mixer at IBC 2009

At IBC 2009 (Stand 8.E72), Sound Devices introduces a brand new addition to its best-selling line of portable mixers- the 552 Production Mixer, the company's first to feature a fully integrated digital audio recorder.

Ideal for both simple run-and-gun applications and in complex multi-input/multi-output production setups, Sound Devices 552 is the most technologically advanced portable audio mixer available to date.

Designed specifically for professional sound engineers, Sound Devices 552 contains five precision, high-dynamic range, transformer-balanced microphone inputs with expanded gain and headroom. The studio-grade inputs have their own limiter, sweepable high-pass filter and pre- or post-fade direct output. At the heart of each microphone input lies a high-performance Lundahl input transformer, which provides freedom from interference in even the most severe RF and EMI environments that are encountered in the field.

Additionally, Sound Devices 552 has an integrated two-track, 24-bit digital audio recorder that writes Broadcast WAV files or MP3 files to SD and SDHC media. The recorder is ideal for applications where a high-quality, 24-bit local recording is required. Either the outputs or combinations of inputs and outputs can be assigned as record sources.

The model is also equipped with voice-driven setup and option menu. Anton/Bauer Brings Speed and Power to IBC 2009 with Introduction of New TM4 Quick Battery Charger

Anton/Bauer®, a brand of The Vitec Group, and the world's premier provider of batteries, chargers, lighting and other mobile power systems for the professional broadcast, video and film industries, will highlight its advanced, fast charge TM4 battery charger at IBC 2009 (Stand 9.D28b).

The TM4 is a four position, charge module-based, fast charger capable of handling the charging needs of up to four batteries simultaneously. The TM4 charges batteries up to two times faster than the Anton/Bauer TWQ charger, providing the end user with reliable battery backup power at all times. Also doubling as an AC power supply, the TM4 will power various equipment with a 70W supply via a 4-pin XLR. The power supply can be used simultaneously with the charger, allowing three batteries to be charged while operating from AC mains.

"For dealing with fast-breaking news stories, remote coverage of events and video production when the video camera must run from a battery, the engineers at Anton/Bauer created the TM4 to provide quick-turnaround battery charging," says Michael Accardi, president of Anton/Bauer. The TM4 will fully charge a Dionic 160 battery in 3.5 hours, a Dionic 90 in three hours, a HyTRON 100 or 140 in two hours, a ProPac Series in one hour, the HyTRON 50 in two hours, and one hour for the TRIMPAC Series. The TM4 offers a wide range input of 100-240 VAC 50/60 Hz and is CE approved. It also has an individual charge position status LED for each battery and the internal battery management software application can be updated from a remote location using a specialized USB-compatible programming cable.
