Vinten Brings High Performance to the Smallest Professional Camcorders with the New Vision Blue

Vinten®, a Vitec Group brand and global leader in camera supports, is launching the Vision Blue at IBC2010. This competitively priced product has been specifically designed to bring uncompromised professional performance to the lightest of camcorders and DSLRs equipped for video.

Today, broadcast quality performance can be realized from small lightweight cameras, but to get the best from the camera and encourage creative freedom they need to be matched with an equally high performance support. Vision Blue is designed to deliver all the quality and performance users have come to expect from a Vinten Vision head, incorporating infinitely adjustable, genuine Perfect Balance and LF drag technology—functionality previously only available with the Vision 3AS and above.

"At Vinten we recognize that all professional camera operators want the same things: smooth, perfectly balanced movement, fast set-up and security against unwanted movement; and a reliable product that will provide long service," said Peter Harman, Vinten product manager. "That is true for all our customers, but up until now there has been a gap in the market for a broadcast quality tripod system that can genuinely balance the smaller, lightly accessorised camcorders that are so common today, without any compromise on creativity.

"We were asked for an innovative product to fill this gap, and with the Vision Blue we are not only delivering a genuine Vision product, but believe it will exceed our customers' expectations," concludes Harman.

Teradek Now Taking Pre-Orders for Cube Camera-Mounted HD Network Video Encoder

Teradek is now taking pre-orders for its first-of-its-kind Cube Camera-Mounted HD Network Video Encoder. Cube captures live video directly from the camera, encodes it using advanced video compression and streams it over ethernet or WiFi up to 1080p@23.98/24/25Hz , 1080i @ 50/59.94/60Hz, 720p@50/59.94/60Hz. The ability to stream HD video over IP from such a small device is unprecedented and provides users with a wealth of previously unimagined applications. Now anyone with a HD video camera can broadcast live video, all that is needed is a WiFi access point to a LAN, WAN, or broadband Internet connection. If WiFi is unavailable Cube features a 10/100 ethernet port.

Turn seminars into live webinars. Broadcast youth, high school, and college sports. Stream local theater, live performances, talent shows, and community events over the web. Broadcast weddings live to distant relatives. Webcast your morning radio show. The possibilities are endless. Cube uses the world's most advanced video compression (H.264 High Profile, Level 4.1) to create Blu-ray quality video over IP. Cube is extremely low power, using only 2.5 watts of power. Cube can be powered by any 12V camera battery and features a terminal block connector that is adaptable to a wide range of popular connectors.

The sturdy aluminum case features a 1/4 inch through-hole that is used to attach a variety of mounting options. Cube can be mounted to the tripod screw under small consumer video cameras for simple handheld operation. Cube can also be mounted between the base of the camera and the tripod. For professional applications, Cube can be mounted to the camera's accessory hot shoe or rail system. Cube features an advanced web user interface, accessible from any browser for easy configuration. To view live video in the field, simply turn on Cube and point your browser window to Cube's IP address, and voila! Live streaming HD video!

On-set Remote Monitoring

With Cube mounted to the camera, the signal is instantly broadcast around the set and back to the production office. Directors can monitor the on-set action using mobile devices and tablet computers such as the Apple iPad.

On location filming
Cube excels in shoots where mobility cannot be compromised. Cube facilitates vehicle-to-vehicle video transmission during running shots and car chases. Steadicam and hand-held camera operators will appreciate Cube's feather weight and wireless operation. Cube replaces the traditional coaxial cable run directly to the VTR operator, and eliminates the distribution of cables from VTR to the director, clients, video village, and replaces it with a distributed signal that can reach all corners of the set wirelessly, and even be broadcast back to the production offices, editors, and post production facilities.

Independent Filmmaking

Budget conscious film makers can now enjoy the benefits of live video monitoring without the prohibitive costs and limited mobility of hiring a video playback person. Directors and production crew can monitor live action on set or remotely. Cube keeps your camera crew light, mobile and fast.

News Gathering
News crews are no longer tied to the million dollar broadcast truck. Using Cube, video is encoded and streamed over the nearest broadband connection. The Pervasiveness of broadband IP connections means that news gatherers can find the nearest WiFi portal and begin transmitting.

Wedding Videography

Cube is an enormous value-added service for the professional wedding videographer. Providing your customers with a live wedding broadcast allows distant relatives to attend the ceremony. Simply tap the broadband internet connection of the wedding venue, point the IP address to a content distribution service, and stream to your favorite wedding portal.

Cube is so easy to use that any video enthusiast can set up a video camera and begin broadcasting.

The target release date for the Cube is August 1, 2010.

Softron Media Services Certifies Blackmagic Design's New DeckLink Duo

Softron Media Services announced today that the entire suite of OnTheAir Video and Movie Recorder products will work with the newly shipping DeckLink Duo from Blackmagic Design.

DeckLink Duo features two independent SDI capture and playback engines built into a single card with a 4 lane PCI Express connection. DeckLink Duo is ideal for Softron customers who need two or more completely independent capture and playback streams in and out of a computer. Since there are two SDI inputs, and two SDI outputs plus a common tri-sync/black burst reference the DeckLink Duo appears as two independent SDI cards to the computer, but only uses a single PCI Express slot. Softron engineers have tested the latest Blackmagic Design drivers extensively and are extremely pleased with the performance of the Duo cards.

"The Decklink Duo is simply ting an awesome solution for customers requiring two or more inputs or outputs in a single Mac platform. We see a lot of Xserve customers jumping on board with this product to update their current single in or out solutions to multiple in or out solutions. Even MacPro workstation users will see the unique benefits of this card bundled with our software," said Mike Skibra, Business Development Manager for Softron Media Services. "We have validated four streams of uncompressed SD video ingest as well as output using two of the Duo cards. We can ingest six stream of compressed SD with no problem. Ingesting two streams of ProRes 422 HQ is likewise no problem, but because of processor requirements that is the current maximum that you can achieve with HD ingest . However four HD outputs from the same MacPro workstation is no problem at all," added Skibra.

Softron Media Services expects that many customers looking to output multiple channels of video will take advantage of Softron's new OnTheAir Node with one or more DeckLink Duo cards. OnTheAir Node is designed for network use. One MacPro or Xserve, equipped with a single Decklink Duo card and the appropriate number of Softron OnTheAir Node licenses can provide two channels of broadcasting in either SD or HD - and be controlled by any Mac on the network with either OnTheAir Live, the playlist manager that comes bundled with the OnTheAir Node application or with OnTheAir Manager, a scheduling application that will also be demonstrated at IBC. Each output can be individually controlled from any Macintosh that is on the network.

Softron's MovieRecorder ingest application will also support the DeckLink Duo. Using MovieRecorder Control, the two inputs on a single DeckLink Duo can be controlled from any Mac on the network as well for gang recording. Of course, more DeckLink Duos will add more outputs using OnTheAir Node or inputs using MovieRecorder across the network and will be accessible by all users.

"Blackmagic Design has worked closely with Softron Media Services for many years and we are very pleased that they are one of the very first companies to announce support for one our new products, the DeckLink Duo, " said Dan May, President of of Blackmagic Design, USA. "Their new products and ours mesh well together. Their customers and ours will be very pleased with the ongoing relationship."

OnTheAir Node is Softron's next generation playout and ingest engine for the Mac. It has been designed to be an inexpensive, reliable and customizable video server that uses existing off-the-shelf technology. OnTheAir Live is a playlist manager that comes bundled with OnTheAir Node and provides the user interface for adding media and controlling playback. OnTheAir Node is designed for network use and multiple licenses can be installed on any number of workstations in a network to output multiple different channels.

In addition to being controllable by OnTheAir Live, OnTheAir Node can be controlled through Telnet, an open, standards-based protocol used in a lot of broadcasting equipment. Softron Media Services has also announced that it will soon ship OnTheAir Manager, a scheduling application that will allow users to prepare scheduled programming for output from any of the nodes installed on the network.
